Gone are the days of waiting in a lineup around the block for a taste of Montreal’s most famous smoked meat. For the first time in the restaurant’s history, Schwartz’s fans can get smoked meat sandwiches, platters and more delivered right to their doors.
Owners of the iconic Plateau deli — also Canada’s oldest — have signed an exclusive deal with Berlin-based food delivery company foodora to offer their carnivorous dining public an at-home option. From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, customers can now choose from a menu of combos or order sandwiches and sides à la carte. “We know our customers have wanted Schwartz’s delivery for a long time,” Schwartz’s general manager Frank Silva said in a statement. “Partnering with foodora means our customers can conveniently enjoy our original smoked meat from the comfort of their home or office anytime they want.”
Still, if you’ve never eaten at Schwartz’s before, you’re probably best off taking your first bite in the original location on The Main, along with a requisite order of fries, coleslaw, a dill pickle, and a can of Cott Black Cherry soda — that is, if they’re in stock. After all, it’s not a true Schwartz’s experience without a side of nostalgia.
