Plateau vegans, rejoice: a new dairy-free soft serve place is coming to the neighbourhood at the end of May. From the people behind HÀO — siblings Charles, Rachelle and William Deluvio, real estate developer Sébastien Leboeuf and Alexis Diestro formerly of Pied de Cochon — SWIRL’s offerings will centre around coconut milk-based soft serve, with a takeout window for non-dairy treats to-go.
Charles Deluvio describes it as “a minimal soft-serve shop using nothing but good ingredients.” Customers can expect inventive flavours beyond your usual vanillas and chocolates, all made from scratch. “The flavours will rotate with the season, from local greenmarket fruits and herbs to Asian inspired ingredients,” says Deluvio. “In contrast to the savoury menu at HÀO, SWIRL will focus on simple sweet treats.”
The shop is set to open in late May, with renovations currently underway in the space. Coincidentally, SWIRL will be located directly across the street from the former HÀO, at 230 Rachel East, at the corner of Laval. “After three years, it felt refreshing to take a step back and explore a different side of our overall vision,” says Deluvio. “We’re happy to have the opportunity to do that through SWIRL.”
