The owners of Uniburger and Tommy Café have opened new Old Montreal bar Unibar together, slinging burgers and natural wine in a speakeasy-like setting.
It takes over the space that was formerly cocktail bar Alfie’s on St-Sulpice Street — relative to some of the rather swanky bars in the area, it’s a casual setting for eating and drinking.
On the food side, burgers are the main offering — the tight menu features regular and double-patty burgers, as well as the vegetarian Beyond Meat burger, plus fries and a daily dessert. Uniburger owner Younes Bengeloune previously noted that the burgers have been slightly tweaked from the existing restaurants, but they still embody the essence of a simple, no-fuss hamburger.

As for the bar component, Bengeloune and Tommy Café owner Thomas Vernis are skewing a little fancier, with natural wines as the main draw, hailing mostly from France and the Mediterranean. A few burger-friendly cocktails such as a cherry cola spritz or “Groot Beer” (bourbon, amaro, vanilla bitters, and root beer syrup) round out the options, alongside a short beer list.
