Montreal has some classic late-night food spots like La Banquise and Chez Claudette, but a recent surge in restaurants and bars with longer hours (we’re so European!) puts more options on the table. Beyond Chinatown, poutine, smoked meat, and sad pizza, there are additional choices now for those in search of a decent meal late. Here are 19 good bets open beyond midnight.

Brasserie Harricana

Open over three years, this Plateau wine bar has become a hot late night spot for those looking for a good glass of vino and a bite to eat. With charcuterie and cheese plates for low commitment, there are also tartares, popcorn shrimp, and other small plates — all served until Rouge Gorge (and its cocktail counterpart Le Royal) closes at 3 a.m.

Lawrence's smaller next-door restaurant is a true all-rounder, with tartares, spaghetti, fried cauliflower and more dished up until 1 a.m. nightly. Eating late is also a good way to dodge crowds at this small space.

Nouveau Palais

One of the pioneers of new wave late night food, Nouveau Palais's menu nocturne is in effect from 12 a.m to 3 a.m., Thursday to Saturday (other nights, it's only dinner until 10:30 or 11:30 p.m.). Sticking to the basics, it’s burgers, cheese fries, and pierogis, along with plenty of drinks and music. The Palace’s newer Papineau location doesn’t share those late night hours, however.

Mezcaleros

Midnight tacos and tortas? Mile End's Mezkaleros has it covered — it's also a highly affordable option, with all food priced under $5 (including two to three tacos at $4.95).
