Knowing how much money has been going directly into the hands of multinational delivery giants instead of local restaurants during the pandemic is enough to kill anyone’s appetite. Mounting pressure from struggling local restaurants, industry bodies, and even mayor Valérie Plante, however, mean that delivery caps may be in the pipeline for Quebec. In the meantime, many restaurants across town have turned to local alternatives, like Chk Plz, Radish, and RestoLoco, for their less prohibitive fees. There are others, though, who have opted to conduct their own deliveries, keeping profits and jobs in-house. From Indian curries to Southern-style mac and cheese, here’s a list of Montreal restaurants taking care of delivery themselves.

Indulge in their famous carrot cake for dessert.

3. Dinette Triple Crown
QC H2S 3E9, Canada
Dinette is a summer favourite for picnics at nearby Parc de la Petite Italie, but its hearty fare is perhaps even more likely to hit the spot come winter. The Southern barbecue restaurant is offering a shorter menu to accommodate delivery right now, but, not to worry, it still delivers the classics, like fried chicken and a deliciously decadent mac and cheese.

4. Uluwatu Cuisine Indonessiéne
QC H2V 1P2, Canada
For great Indonesian food, which isn’t so easy to come by in the city, Outremont’s newest restaurant, Uluwatu, is definitely worth a (takeout) visit. But for anyone who can’t make it there in person, they’ve got their own drivers ready to deliver their delicious creations, like Soto Betawi, a soup with diced beef short ribs and vegetables, originating from Jakarta.

5. Le Roi du Smoked Meat
QC H2S 2M6, Canada
Some may balk at the idea of going anywhere but Schwartz’s or Snowdon Deli for their smoked meat fix, but St-Hubert’s Le Roi du Smoked Meat is equipped to satisfy many late-night cravings, with its own take of beef brisket on rye, plus spaghetti à la Roi au gratin (i.e., topped with golden, melted cheese), and a decent greek salad. Open daily until midnight, and offering delivery since pre-pandemic times.

6. Restaurant Thaïlande
QC H2T 2J8, Canada
While its traditional decor and floor seating are undoubtedly part of the charm of this well-established Mile-End establishment, patrons can at least revel in its tum kha (a galanga and coconut milk soup) and pad phed talay (a seafood sauté) from home.

7. vinvinvin
QC H2S 1P9, Canada
This La-Petite-Patrie wine bar, specializing in natural, organic, and biodynamic offerings, has been going by the name miamiamiam during the pandemic. 8. Pizza St-Viateur
QC H2T 2J6, Canada
This popular Mile-End establishment (with a second locations in NDG) has conducted its own delivery service from the very beginning — of its existence, not the pandemic. With a deal of any four 10” pizzas on its menu for 39$, it can be pizza night every week.
9. Ryu
QC H3Z 3K2, Canada
This upscale downtown sushi restaurant has its own delivery service and has been offering pick-up since the beginning of the pandemic. Ryu is well-known for the 100 percent sustainably-sourced seafood that graces its rolls, but it’s also now delivering amazing desserts — like milk and cookies — from sister establishment Livia Sweets.
